Bluebeard & Amelia’s Exterior Design and Public Art in Indianapolis
We’ve had the privilege of working with the folks behind Bluebeard & Amelia’s for a long time. Tom, Sherry, Ed, Abbi, Charlie & Tiffany have all been great to work with. In addition to the branding & identity work we’ve done for them, we’ve also been commissioned by them for several public art pieces that hang around their little corner of the world. Several years ago we were asked to put a line from Kurt Vonnegut onto a log that Tom had had cut down to square. We laid out the typography, created a pouncing pattern & ultimately hand routed the phrase into the log.
A couple of years later, after Amelia’s storefront was up & going, these fine folks decided they needed a mural to dress up the side of the building. The ventures that these folks take on are such community building ventures that we really wanted to showcase that through imagery. We used another Vonnegut line to tie it together & we got to have a lot of fun painting (& eating Nicey Treats) together on a warm, sunny Saturday.
Utilizing an aluminum sign frame that had been warehoused for several years, we have also designed and had printed the first of several seasonal food signs for the courtyard at Bluebeard. These will change several times a year and will explore the harvest of the different seasons in Indiana. It’s one of the best patios in Indianapolis, if you haven’t visited yet, go tomorrow. The menu is always changing, but the good vibes are always there.
